Fine Food Comes to the Suburbs

There was a time when truly fine food was only available in a few specific places around the country. San Francisco and New York have been known for their food for generations, even the nations second city of Chicago has made a name for itself with quality food, even if it is a deep dish pizza.

These days, high quality food is pervading the general public by making its way into a suburb near you.

The leading foods for this fine food craze, in my opinion are wine and olive oil.

wine clubs probably helped to start the wine craze by helping people to both taste and understand that the mass produced grocery store wines that we all started drinking wasn’t all that the wine industry had to offer. We’ve all learned that small production wineries deliver truly outstanding value, which is something we can all appreciate. As it turns out, a ton of people are willing to trade some of their time to search for wine, for a better product.

Personally, I think if I were writing this article a year from now, it might make sense to talk about olive oil before wine. We all use olive oil on a regular basis, but did you know that the average grocery store bought olive oil isn’t as healthy as we all initially thought?

I didn’t either before reading Extra Virginity, which talks about the real olive oil industries across the world and how the product is really a high end offering more similar to wine than anything else that we all buy. The book is a fascinating read, which really shows that we are all trading convenience for lesser healthy benefits when we buy olive oil which sits on a grocery store shelf for years before making its way into our pantry. Personally, that isn’t a trade I am willing to make!
