Best Resources for the Sentence Correction Section of the GMAT

The Sentence Correction section of the GMAT is the most objective and learnable section of the Verbal portion of the test. You can learn the grammar rules, which are completely objective, practice them, and thus improve your score. With that said, it still takes a lot of time and effort in order to do well on this section of the test. It is important to know your grammar rules very well so you can try to do each sentence correction question in a minute or less. If you do this, you will free up time for the more time-consuming Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension sections of the test. This article will go through how to study for the GMAT Sentence Correction section by listing what I consider the best study materials.

Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction Guide

This book is recognized generally as the standard for learning the fundamentals of this section of the test. It lays out in a very concise manner exactly which grammar rules you need to know and how to learn them. The only major problem with this book is that it does not have very many practice problems in it. For simply learning the fundamentals, however, there is no better book out there.

Official Guide

This is a really great resource for practice problems and testing out what you have learned. If you can get to the point where you can do the problems here with 90% accuracy, then you are probably ready to take the test. These contain official practice questions, which simply means they used to be on the actual GMAT. They will therefore be a great indicator of how well you can do on this section of the test. You should go through these problems at least twice and try to focus on your weak areas.

Official Guide Verbal Supplement

This is a resource that is similar to the standard Official Guide. This is something you should go through only after you have exhausted every problem in the Official Guide. If you have a lot of time to study, then it is definitely worth it to go through these practice problems as well. They can only help further your understanding of the grammar rules as well as how the test-makers ask questions.
